“Stop the car,” shouted Gail Siegel as she caught a brief glimpse of the beach along the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. She knew the eastern shore well, but had never really explored all of the western side of the bay before. Yet, she was determined not to give up on her dream and rebuilt the cottage from the ground up. Through the process, Gail not only learned just about everything there is to know about waterfront construction—critical area permits, flood compliance, insurance, zoning regulations—but she learned just how much she loved the lifestyle she’d discovered here. “The funny thing is that this experience only strengthened my passion for this place,” she says. “There’s nowhere else I’d rather live, work and play.”
